The study of the indigo or xiquilite has a great importance in the economic history of Central America, Along with the sacred and legendary corn of the Mayans, and the cacao, it constitutes one of the legacies of our high indigenous cultures to the world-wide civilization. But unlike the corn and other vegetable products, the indigo, for different reasons, stopped being so important. For that reason it has become a historical subject that once played an important economic role for our lands. Now a days we can see the process of indigo and, still, can dye our own handkerchief or t-shirt to take back as a souvenir.
